All-natural eliquid to replace PG, VG and PEG vape oils
A recently completed Harvard study has sent a shock waves through the vaping community. The newly released study has linked the chemicals found in vape oils and liquids to lung disease. This is, of course, a major blow to millions of people around the world who were told that vape products were a healthy alternative to smoking cigarettes.
One of these chemicals, diacetyl, is a flavoring component and is used in more than 75 percent of the vape products tested by the research team at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Harmful flavoring additives were not limited to diacetyl, as two other flavoring components were shown to be potentially harmful. The severity of the findings are even more distasteful when one considers that most of the flavorings are named after popular candies and other names that would appeal to children.
This is not the first time the infamous chemical diacetyl has been linked to lung disease. Originally, workers at artificial butter flavoring facilities were reporting respiratory problems. It was found that these workers had developed bronchiolitis obliterans, which is a serious respiratory disease.
“Recognition of the hazards associated with inhaling flavoring chemicals started with ‘popcorn lung’ over a decade ago. However, diacetyl and other related flavoring chemicals are used in many other flavors beyond butter-flavored popcorn, including fruit flavors, alcohol flavors, and, we learned in our study, candy-flavored e-cigarettes.” – Joseph Allen, lead author & assistant professor of exposure assessment sciences.
Allen and his team of researchers, tested 51 varieties of e-liquids and oils, and detected harmful chemicals in 47 of the 51 tested products. The chemicals found were diacetyl, acetoin, and 2,3-pentanedione, which are all known to be hazardous to the respiratory system. The levels of these chemicals were higher than what is generally considered safe in over half of the tested samples.
Today, there are more than 7,000 varieties of liquids & oils used in e-cigarettes and vape products. Considering the size of the market and the rate at which the vape industry is growing, it is alarming that there is not more research being undertaken on these hazardous chemicals. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
“Since most of the health concerns about e-cigarettes have focused on nicotine, there is still much we do not know about e-cigarettes. In addition to containing varying levels of the addictive substance nicotine, they also contain other cancer-causing chemicals, such as formaldehyde, and as our study shows, flavoring chemicals that can cause lung damage.” – David Christiani, Elkan Blout study co-author Professor of Environmental Genetics.
BioCBD Plus™ all-natural e liquid
These findings describe the potential hazards of inhaling chemicals commonly found in vape products. The only way to not have those chemicals in your e liquids is by using an all-natural e liquid. An all-natural e liquid does not contain diacetyl or any other harmful substances. An all-natural e liquid does not rely on chemical for flavoring, but rather relies on herbs such as cardamom and/or mint.
BioCBD Plus™ never uses any chemicals, solvents or toxins in any of our products, and our vape CBD oil is a completely all-natural e liquid. That means that there is no nicotine, diacetyl, or any other potential harmful chemicals in our vape CBD formulation. With BioCBD Plus™ leading the way, more and more companies are beginning to move to having all-natural e liquid formulations.
