CBD for PTSD: The All-Natural Alternative
BioCBD+™ and our employees are proud of the men and women serving our country! We recently offered a veteran inspired Memorial Day promotion to educate veterans and their loved ones about an all-natural alternative to support them in their return to optimal health. While many of our veterans are suffering with PTSD, PTSD is not only limited to our current and former military. Many of us know and/or love someone suffering with this terrible affliction. Is CBD for PTSD? Let’s examine the facts.
What is PTSD?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) develops in some people after they have been exposed to a shocking, frightening, or dangerous event. Although our active military and veterans represent the lion’s share of PTSD cases, PTSD also affects police officers, firefighters, EMS, victims of dangerous crimes such as rape, and people who have been involved in accidents and catastrophic natural disasters.
Symptoms of PTSD/Signs of PTSD
Are you wondering if you or someone you know has PTSD? Here are some signs or symptoms of PTSD:
- Shortness of breath
- Excessive sweating
- Fatigue and/or fainting
- Trouble sleeping
- Can’t concentrate or focus
- Heart palpitations
What is Cannabidiol?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of up to 90 different cannabinoids that can be present in any strain of medical cannabis. Almost everyone is familiar with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the cannabinoid responsible for the intoxicating effects of medical marijuana. CBD and THC have a relationship similar to the hormones, testosterone and estrogen. Testosterone is high and estrogen is low in men, whereas estrogen is high and testosterone is low in women. When testosterone is high, estrogen is low. The same concept applies to THC and CBD. When THC is high, CBD is low. When CBD is high, THC is low. This is why hemp, which naturally has very minuscule amounts of THC, is so rich in CBD.
CBD’s miracle molecule status is the product of so many research studies looking into the potential of CBD. There’s over 40 different conditions or ailments currently looking towards CBD for an answer. This is for many reasons. First, millions upon millions of people are becoming frustrated with the western medical approach to disease. These people are tired of pill after pill, doctor’s visits galore, and the cornucopia of side-effects have all contributed to a mass exodus away from pharmaceutical drugs. What if there was an all-natural alternative with no side-effects, no potential for abuse, and no prescription required?
Is CBD for PTSD?
Many veterans are already familiar with CBD, with most of those turning to CBD in lieu of addictive painkillers. Opioids and other forms of pharmaceutical painkillers have come under heavy scrutiny for their high rate of addiction, opioid-induced psychological disorders and opioid attributed deaths. CBD has been hailed as an all-natural wonder because many people are now choosing CBD over painkillers. And guess what?! Deaths from painkiller overdose are decreasing!
In addition, CBD has shown even more promise for veterans due to CBD’s potential to benefit those with PTSD. Consuming CBD for PTSD could become the norm in a relatively short time period as CBD continues to gain notoriety and momentum. Why all the hype surrounding CBD for PTSD?! Well, CBD has been shown to:
- Block mood receptors
- Regulate pain receptors
- Promote better sleep
- Help to enhance extinction learning
- Regulate stress hormones
- And more!
